When I first heard of the Silkpeel treatment, I was intrigued. Watching a co worker give one to another fueled my interest. All the stylists and clients always had nothing but good things to say about it. It didn’t seem that scary to me, but the way it’s made out to be is a little nerve wracking. I definitely need a “deep cleaning” of my skin. Between my daily makeup, the winter air, and I’ll admit, not enough sleep or water, my skin is in need of some love.
My main concern was, how is my skin going to react? I have eczema patches and dry patches that my makeup ALWAYS clings to. Every time I try a new product, i seem to break out in a skin reaction that could include any or all of the following: rashes, hives, pimples and/or zits. Obviously i have very sensitive skin and try to use products and do things that i know will not cause me to break out or react. But i really wanted to see if this Silkpeel would help me! Here is a picture of me before the Silkpeel, dry patches and all.
I did some research on the treatment before hand. I googled the definition and this is what came up: Silkpeel Dermalinfusion or hydrodermabrasion skin treatments combine non-invasive exfoliation with the infusion of skin-specific topical solutions to improve and revitalize the skin. An advanced form of microdermabrasion, Silkpeels are unique because they do not use crystals.
Basically, it uses a diamond head tip to exfoliate your skin while simultaneously shooting a solution onto your skin, extracting blemishes and then it sucks it all back into a different tube that collects into a glass bottle.
I also read a pamphlet that we have available here at the salon. It talks about the different solutions that can be used during the silkpeel. Here’s what they are and how they help:
Lumixyl Pro-Infusion:improves the appearance of discoloration and achieves a more even tone oveall. Offers an accelerated approach to brightening that is effective and without the risks or irritation of other brightening agents.
Hydrating Pro-Infusion: moisturizing formula developed to quench the thirstiest skin.
ClarityMD Pro-Infusion: provides relief for the most sensitive, acne prone skin. First and only acne treatment to feature fully solubilized bakuchiol for better penetration into pores to yield faster clinical results.
Vitamin C Pro-Infusion: helps to brighten, exfoliate and infuse your skin with an arsenal of targeted antioxidants to protect against free-radical damage.
The skin care professional performing my Silkpeel chose the Hydrating Pro-Insfusion solution because I have extremely dry skin. She also chose a low setting because of how sensitive my skin is.
What did I hope to get out of it? Fresh skin, blackhead removal, dry patches exfoliated off, hydration, even makeup application.
What did it feel like? I felt a light suction on my face but, the rhythmic way she moved the machine across my skin, was soothing. Below is a picture while I was getting it done, so you get an idea of what the Silkpeel machine looks like:
After getting the Silkpeel, my skin was a complete 360. My face felt dewy and clean. All of the rough patches I had before hand were gone and my skin was smoother than I’ve ever felt. Sometimes when I leave the house on a cold day I always do a slight cringe because the Connecticut cold actually hurts my face. But, leaving my Silkpeel appointment, after sundown, my face felt amazing. There was no pain or stinging from the cold because it was that hydrated. My skin was a little pink in color, but it went away before I even got home. I was looking at my skin in the bathroom mirror that night and my blackheads were gone. Before the Silkpeel, my nose had tons of blackheads. It was actually gross, but, the machine worked its magic and got rid of every. Single. One. Putting on my makeup the next morning, my beauty blender did not get hung up on any dryness while applying my concealer and foundation, and i noticed a much more even application of my makeup. My skin tone was also more even and my breakouts seemed to have disappeared. Here is a picture of my skin the next day, notice the dryness is gone and I actually have a slight glow from the hydration.
As stated before, the used solution and impurities from your skin collect into a glass bottle. I took a picture of my solution after the Silkpeel. You can see how cloudy the once clear solution is and how unclean my face really was. (The larger black chunks are not from my face, they are from the machine itself.)
What I've learned from this experience is that even though I'm young, I need to start taking better care of my skin. Having a skin care regimen is important at all stages of life. At this point in my life, I need to start preventing from aging. So, I definitely think getting a Silkpeel regularly will help with that. It gets rid of all the impurities that my daily cleanser can't. By starting Silkpeels early in my life, I feel like it will help in the preserving of my youthful skin. But, I also think (and have seen) women older than me leave the salon a completely different person due to the help of the Silkpeel.
