Okay, so I saw this PRADA Re-Edition 2005 Bag online, the classic style, and I thought, “I can totally make that!” It’s basically a shoulder bag, looked simple enough, and I’ve been wanting to try my hand at making a bag for a while now. I remembered seeing some posts about it being a “reinterpretation” of their older designs from like 2000 to 2005, so I figured it must be pretty popular.
First, I gotta find some materials. The original one is made of leather, but I’m not ready to splurge on real leather yet. I found some pretty decent faux leather online and ordered a black one. While waiting, I started sketching out the design. I found some pictures of the bag online. Seemed like it had a main pouch and a smaller, removable pouch attached. That smaller pouch had a logo on it, too. It looked doable.
Getting down to work
Once the faux leather arrived, I got to work. I measured and cut out the pieces according to my sketches. I used a basic pattern, kinda like a rectangle for the main body. Then I sewed the sides together. It was a bit tricky, gotta be honest. The faux leather was a bit stiff. But I managed to get it done.
- Sewed the main body of the bag
- Cut out pieces for the shoulder strap and the smaller pouch
- Sewed those together, too.
The Details
For the smaller pouch, I made it detachable by adding a little clip. I didn’t have a PRADA logo, obviously, so I just left it plain. For the shoulder strap, I just made a long strip, folded it, and sewed it together. Attached that to the main bag.
The Final Look
It actually turned out pretty good! It’s not exactly like the original, but it’s got the same vibe. Black, simple, with a main pouch and a smaller one. I even tried carrying it around for a day, and it holds up pretty well. It’s definitely not as polished as the real deal, but I’m still proud of it. It’s a great first attempt at making a bag. And who knows, maybe one day I’ll even try making one with real leather. Maybe even sell these bad boys for like, 25 bucks. Now that would be awesome! For now I’ll just keep it and use it for myself. I would say it is pretty worth it, to do it yourself.
