Patek Philippe PP Calatrava 5227R-001 Remake: Is the Classic Style Remake Worth Buying?

Time:2024-12-25 Author:ldsf125303

Oh, that Patek Philippe, my grandson showed me the other day. Said it’s some fancy watch, a remake, whatever that means. He keeps going on about this Calatrava 5227R-001, a real mouthful, that is. Says it’s a classic style. Well, I reckon it looks like a watch. A nice watch, sure, but still just a watch.

He said this remake Patek Philippe is a big deal. People wait a long time to get one. Like, years! Imagine waiting years for a watch. Back in my day, you went to the store, you picked a watch, you bought it. Done. Now, you gotta wait longer than it takes for a cow to have a calf. And for what? A watch that tells time just like any other watch. He mentioned one of them called Nautilus, folks wait 8 years for that. For Calatrava, maybe just one year. That’s still a long time to wait for a watch in my book.

Why Folks Like This Patek Philippe Thing

So, why all the fuss about this Patek Philippe Calatrava? I asked my grandson, and he went on and on about the details. Says it’s all fancy on the inside. Lots of little parts moving around. He said this one, the 5227R-001, has 212 parts. 212! Can you believe it? And 30 jewels! What’s a watch need with jewels? It’s not a crown, for goodness’ sake. And it’s small, this watch. My grandson said it is 27 mm wide. And only 3.3 mm thick. Sounds like it would break easy to me.

They made this Calatrava way back. My grandson told me the first one, something called Reference 96, was made in 1932. That’s older than me! They keep making new ones, changing them a little each time. This 5227R-001 is just the latest one, I guess.

This Calatrava Costs a Fortune

  • Some folks pay a lot for these watches.
  • My grandson said he saw one listed for $34. That can’t be right.
  • He also showed me some website called Chrono24, said there were 53 of these 5227R-001 watches there. Said people compare deals there. Whatever that means.

And get this, they say it winds itself! Called a “self-winding caliber 324 movement.” Now, what in the world does that mean? A watch that winds itself? Sounds like a load of hogwash to me. Back in my day, you wound your watch yourself, and that was that. This is some fancy technology, they got now. I don’t know. Seems like they are making things complicated just to make them complicated.

They Say It’s a Classic Style, This Patek Philippe

My grandson, he says this Patek Philippe Calatrava 5227R-001 is a “classic style.” I guess that means it looks old-fashioned, but in a good way. Like my old china, I suppose. It’s simple, not too flashy. Just a plain round watch with a leather strap. I’ve seen folks wear it with a suit, and it looks alright, I reckon. Not my style, but I can see why some folks might like it.

They make a big deal about how these Patek Philippe watches are collectible. Like stamps or those little porcelain dolls my neighbor used to collect. People buy them and keep them, hoping they’ll be worth more money someday. I guess it’s like an investment, but it still seems silly to me. A watch is for telling time, not for sitting in a box.

I saw some ads online, too. They promise discounts on these Patek Philippe watches. One said “Enjoy Discounts Hottest Sales”. Another one had “Large Selection Of Brand New Styles” and mentioned some other fancy watch names like Ballon Bleu, and Tank Francaise. There were 10 reviews there, my grandson said. Sounds fishy to me. If it’s so good, why do they need to discount it?

It’s Just a Watch, Ain’t It?

This remake Patek Philippe, this Calatrava 5227R-001, it’s just a watch at the end of the day. A fancy, expensive watch, sure, but still just a watch. It tells time, same as any other watch. I guess if you have the money to spend and you like that sort of thing, then go for it. But me, I’ll stick with my old trusty watch. It may not be a Patek Philippe, but it tells time just fine, and that’s all that matters to me.

Maybe I’m just old-fashioned, but I don’t see the point in all this fuss. A watch is a watch. You wear it on your wrist, and it tells you the time. This Patek Philippe Calatrava, it’s just a lot of hoopla if you ask me. But hey, what do I know? I’m just an old lady who likes things simple. Now, where did I put my glasses…?
