Okay, so, I decided to remake a Prada Galleria bag, the small one, ’cause why not? I saw it on the official store, and I was like, “I can totally make that.” So, I started this little project.
First off, I had to get the leather. Not just any leather, though. I needed that Saffiano stuff, which is basically real leather that’s been treated and has this specific texture. It’s not like full-grain, so it won’t change much over time, which is pretty neat. I read somewhere that it could be either chrome-tanned or vegetable-tanned, but the important thing was getting the right thickness.
I gathered all my tools and materials. It’s a messy process, but fun. I cut the leather into the shapes I needed, trying to be precise ’cause this is a Prada remake, you know? It has to look good. It was interesting to learn that most of Prada’s stuff is made in Italy, so I tried to channel some of that Italian craftsmanship.
- Cutting the Saffiano leather was the first big step.
- Then, I started assembling the pieces. This is where it got tricky.
- I had to make sure the inside had that logo plaque. It’s supposed to be ceramic on leather bags, and I found out that if it’s plastic or fabric, it’s probably a fake.
Putting It All Together
Stitching was next. It’s not my strongest suit, but I managed. I kept thinking about the original store opened by Mario Prada in Milan, back in 1913. Kind of cool to think about the history while I was working on this. I tried to combine that old-school craftsmanship with, like, industrial precision, as they say. Sounds fancy, right?
After a lot of trial and error, I finally finished it. It’s not perfect, but it looks pretty darn close to the real deal. I even checked out some online stores and saw they were selling for quite a bit. Makes you appreciate the work that goes into these bags.
So, that’s my story of remaking a Prada Galleria bag. It was a cool experience, and I learned a lot. Plus, now I have a fancy bag that I made myself. Not too bad for a DIY project, huh?
