Hey everyone, I’m back with another one of my little projects! You know how I’ve always been a sucker for those designer bags, right? Well, today, I decided to take on the Fendi Mon Tresor Mini Leather & Mesh Bucket Bag. I mean, who wouldn’t want that beauty in their closet? But, the price tag? Ouch! So, I thought, why not try to recreate it myself? Let’s get into it!

Scouting and Scheming

First things first, I needed to get a good look at the real deal. I spent hours online, just browsing through pictures and descriptions. I found out that the official stores have like a ton of these bags, some even on sale! But even the discounted ones were way out of my budget. I found some listings like “56 items on sale from $1” and “16 items on sale from $1”. They are all teasing me. I even stumbled upon a site called FARFETCH, claiming to have “the one that you want”. Yeah, right, like I’m gonna splurge that much! Another site called “The RealReal” was offering “authentic” ones at up to “90% off”, even “40% off”, “50% off” which still seemed a bit much for a DIY enthusiast like me. Oh, and I also discovered that since 2004, Fendi puts a little holographic square with a serial number in their bags. Fancy, huh?

Gathering My Troops (Materials, I Mean)

After I had a solid idea of the bag’s design, it was time to gather my materials. Now, I’m no Fendi factory, so I wasn’t aiming for an exact replica. I was going for the “vibe,” you know? I found some decent leather scraps from my previous projects and some mesh fabric that I thought would do the trick. A detachable top handle and adjustable shoulder strap? I’ve got some old bag straps that could work. This is gonna be fun!

The Construction Zone

This was the tricky part. I had to cut the leather into the right shapes, and let me tell you, leather is not the easiest thing to work with. I managed to create a bucket shape, even if it was a bit wonky at first. Sewing the mesh was also a pain. My sewing machine was definitely not designed for this! And that little Fendi logo? I tried to hand-paint something similar, but let’s just say it’s… abstract. A detachable top handle and adjustable shoulder strap were also added by me, giving me various styling choices.

The Grand Reveal (or Not So Grand)

So, after many hours of blood, sweat, and maybe a few tears, my Fendi-inspired bag was complete! Does it look like the original? Not exactly. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. But, did I have fun making it? You bet! It’s unique, it’s mine, and it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg. Plus, I learned a lot along the way. I guess the original version is “Ideal for the discerning fashionista”, but mine is perfect for the frugal fashion experimenter!

Lessons Learned

  • Leather is tough! Next time, I might need to invest in some better tools.
  • Mesh is messy! My sewing machine and I had a serious disagreement.
  • Logos are hard! Hand-painting is not my forte.

But hey, that’s the beauty of DIY, right? It’s all about the journey, the mistakes, and the little victories. Would I do it again? Maybe. Would I try a different bag? Definitely! Stay tuned for my next crafting adventure, folks!
