Classic Style for Less: How the Remake PRADA Medium Galleria Saffiano Bag Compares to the Original

Okay, so I tried to remake this Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag, the medium-sized one. It’s a classic, you know? I saw it first in 2007, and they keep making new versions, but this one’s like the original.

First, I looked up a bunch of pictures of the bag. Gotta know your enemy, right? Or in this case, your project. I checked out the size, the shape, the little details, all of it. This bag’s been around since 2007, and it’s still super popular. It’s a favorite for women who want something classy and practical. Prada’s been around since 1913, they are known for those fancy, high-end stuff, but their designs are always so cool.

Then, I gathered my materials. I found this leather that felt pretty similar to the Saffiano leather they use. It’s got that special texture, kinda cross-hatched. I also got some fabric for the lining, some sturdy thread, and the hardware – you know, the buckles, the zipper, that sort of thing. Most of Prada products are made in Italy, so I tried to get good stuff that’s made in Italy, too.

I started by making a pattern. I measured out the pieces based on the dimensions of the real bag and drew them onto some thick paper. Cutting out the leather was a bit nerve-wracking, gotta be precise! I used a really sharp rotary cutter and a ruler to make sure all the edges were straight.

Sewing the pieces together was the longest part. I used my sewing machine for the big seams, but some of the trickier bits I did by hand. Like attaching the handles, that took some patience. And the little triangle Prada logo? Stitched that on by hand, too. Took forever, but it had to be perfect.

  • Cut the leather pieces.
  • Sew the main body of the bag.
  • Attach the handles and the lining.
  • Add the hardware, like the zipper and buckles.
  • Stitch on the Prada logo.

The inside of the bag has these pockets, so I made those and sewed them in. Gotta have a place for your phone and keys, right? I even added a little zippered pocket, just like the real one.

Finally, I put all the finishing touches on. Attached the metal feet to the bottom, so the bag doesn’t get scuffed up. Made sure all the stitching was secure and trimmed any loose threads.

The Result

It wasn’t easy, and it took a lot of time, but I’m pretty happy with how it turned out. It’s not a perfect replica, of course, but it definitely captures the vibe of the Prada Galleria. It’s a sturdy, stylish bag, and I learned a ton making it. It’s like my own little piece of future heritage! I can see why this bag is such a classic – it’s just so well-made and practical. Maybe I’ll try making another one someday, but for now, I’m just gonna enjoy using this one.
