So, I’ve always had this thing for those swanky Rolex watches. You know the ones, right? Especially that GMT-Master II with the “Root Beer” bezel. Man, that brown and black combo just does it for me. It’s got this cool, vintage look that I really dig. I mean, who wouldn’t want to rock that on their wrist?
I got this crazy idea one day, I was like, “What if I could find something that looked just like it, but didn’t cost an arm and a leg?” I started poking around, reading reviews, that sort of thing. Found some stuff from American brands, like Stuhrling and a few others, but they just didn’t quite hit the mark.
Then I stumbled upon these high imitation watches. Yeah, yeah, I know what you’re thinking. But hear me out. I found this one place, they had this “Root Beer” GMT-Master II, and it looked almost identical to the real deal. The bracelet looked pretty good in the pictures, the bezel colors were spot on, and it had all those little details that make the Rolex so iconic.
I mean, this “Root Beer” Rolex, it’s not just some watch. It’s got a whole history. They had it in stainless steel and yellow gold. It’s a classic, the 16713 reference, produced in both stainless steel and yellow gold. And there is a newer one, which is the 126711CHNR. It’s one of those rare times Rolex decided to do something a little different, you know? And people went nuts for it.
Anyway, I pulled the trigger and ordered one. When it arrived, I was blown away. This thing was beautiful. I took it to a watch guy I know, just to get his opinion. He’s seen a lot of watches, real and fake, and he was seriously impressed. He said it was one of the best replicas he’d ever seen. Even my buddies, who know I’m into watches, couldn’t tell the difference. I’ve been wearing it for a while now, and it’s been great. Keeps perfect time, looks amazing, and I didn’t have to take out a second mortgage to get it.
But like, I’ve heard the real Rolex GMT-Master II, especially the 116710BLNR, holds its value like crazy. It’s like, in the top three with the Daytona and the Submariner, those are really hot right now. But hey, getting on that waitlist is a whole other story.
Look, I’m not saying it’s the same as owning a real Rolex. But for me, it’s pretty darn close. I get to enjoy the look and feel of that classic “Root Beer” design without the insane price tag. And that’s a win in my book. Plus I can put that money towards something else, like maybe another watch… just kidding (maybe not).
- Took a chance on a high imitation.
- Watch guy was impressed.
- Friends couldn’t tell the difference.
- Enjoying the classic look without the hefty price.
So, if you’re like me and you’ve always wanted a “Root Beer” GMT-Master II, but you’re not quite ready to drop that kind of cash, you might want to check out the high imitation route. You might be surprised at what you find.
