Alright, so, a while back, I decided I really wanted to get my hands on one of those Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatches. You know, the ones with the fancy sapphire crystal and that Caliber 3861 movement. Sounds cool, right? Well, let me tell you about how that went.
First off, I started digging around online, just to get a feel for what I was getting myself into. I found out that the model I was after is the 42mm one, with a black dial and this domed sapphire crystal. The reference number I jotted down was 310.32.42.50.01.002, just in case I needed it later. Oh boy, was I in for a ride.
- Model: Omega Speedmaster Professional
- Size: 42mm
- Crystal: Sapphire
- Movement: Caliber 3861
I read a bunch of stuff about how this watch is a big deal for collectors who love that classic Speedmaster look. Then, I bumped into this listing for a used one from 2021, and it was in excellent condition. Stainless steel, sapphire crystals, and all that jazz. The pictures looked pretty sweet, I gotta say. There was another listing for a model from 2024, practically brand new, with the original box and papers. It was tempting, very tempting, but at that time my money was tight,so I gave up this idea.
Then, I got sidetracked and ended up checking out the prices. I saw that a brand spanking new one could set you back around $7,900. Ouch. But, I did find a used one from 2022 for about $5,200 from some guy in Indonesia. It wasn’t exactly the sapphire one I wanted, but it was a good bit cheaper.
I started comparing all the different versions of the 3861, just to make sure I knew what was what. Turns out, this watch has a new dial, case, crystal, bracelet, and that fancy Co-Axial Master Chronometer movement. Pretty high-tech stuff.
Making the Decision
After all that research and back and forth, I finally decided to go for it. I pulled the trigger on the used one from Indonesia. It wasn’t the sapphire version, but it was a good deal, and I figured it was a decent compromise. I mean, it’s still an Omega Speedmaster, right? But, I know, I want the sapphire version.
So, that’s the story of how I ended up with an Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch. It wasn’t exactly how I pictured it, but hey, life’s full of surprises. Maybe someday I’ll get my hands on that sapphire version, but for now, I’m pretty happy with what I’ve got. And who knows what other adventures await me in the world of watches? Only time will tell, I guess!
