Well, lemme tell ya, I seen pictures. It’s all shiny and gold-lookin’. They say it’s for them rich folks, the ones that got money to burn. They call it a “luxury” watch. Luxury! What’s that even mean? My old watch tells the time just fine, and it didn’t cost me an arm and a leg.

This Patek Philippe, it’s a big name, I guess. Like them fancy cars, or them designer clothes the young’uns wear. They say it’s special ’cause it’s made real good, with all them tiny little parts workin’ together. I don’t know nothin’ ’bout that, but I reckon it must be somethin’ if people are willin’ to pay that much for it.

I heard some folks say these Patek Philippe Calatrava watches are a good “investment”. Like buyin’ land or gold, ‘cept it’s a watch. They say the price goes up, up, up. Sounds like a load of hooey to me, but what do I know? I ain’t never had that kind of money to throw around.
And get this, they say there’s a waitin’ list! A waitin’ list to buy a watch! Can you believe that? Some folks wait years, I hear. Years! For a watch! They say some model you need to wait 8 years, and some you can get it after one year. I’d be six feet under by the time I got mine, I reckon.
Them Fancy Models of Patek Philippe
They got all sorts of these Patek Philippe watches, not just the Calatrava. There’s one called the Nautilus, sounds like a fish. And another one called the Aquanaut. And some called Grand somethin’ or other, I can’t rightly remember. Complicated names for complicated watches, I suppose.
They are all expensive. But some are more expensive. The Nautilus 5711, the Aquanaut 5167, these are crazy expensive. They say these two models, they go up the price. But I don’t know. Maybe they just say that.

- Folks love it, I guess.
- But it’s just a watch to me.
I saw one of them Calatrava watches once. A fella came through town, showin’ it off. It was pretty, I’ll give it that. But nothin’ I’d spend my life savin’s on. I’d rather have a new roof on my house, or maybe a good milk cow.
That’s a Lot of Money For a Patek Philippe Watch
They say these Calatrava watches, they cost ’round 24,000 dollars. Some are 11,000, and some are 85,000. That is too much money. I don’t have that much money. No one I know has that much money. It is just crazy.
I don’t understand why folks spend so much on a watch. It just tells the time, same as any other watch. Maybe it’s a status thing. Maybe they wanna show off how much money they got. But to me, it just seems silly.
But hey, what do I know? I’m just an old lady. I don’t know nothin’ ’bout fancy watches or rich folks’ problems. I just know what time it is, and that’s enough for me. This Calatrava 5227R-001, it’s somethin’ else, I’ll give it that. But it ain’t for me. I’ll stick with my old trusty watch, thank you very much. It tells time good. It is a good watch. I don’t need a Patek Philippe. I don’t need to wait for 8 years. I can buy one from the store right away. That is good enough for me.
These young people, they like to follow the trend. If other people say it is good, they think it is good. But me, I don’t care. I don’t care about the trend. I just want something good. Something that works. This Patek Philippe, it is too much. It is too much for me. Maybe it is good for other people. But not for me.
