Hey all, I’ve been messing around with watches for a while now, and today I wanna talk about something I did with my OMEGA Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch – the one with the see-through back. You know, the kind where you can see all the little gears and stuff moving around. It’s pretty cool, right?
So, first off, getting this watch was a bit of a journey. I had my eyes on the FOIS Speedmaster for a bit, mostly ’cause it’s a tad smaller at 39mm and looks a bit fancier with those alpha hands and no crown guards. They were the first ones to put that speed calculator, the tachymeter, on the bezel. And the one I got, the “Pro”, it’s a bit bigger and it’s built like a tank.
What I really wanted to do was swap out the back. I wanted that clear back so I could see the movement. It is not hard to do that. But after searching around, I found the perfect parts and got to work.
- Finding the Right Parts: This took some digging. I spent hours online, reading forums and comparing parts. I finally found the transparent case back I wanted.
- Gathering My Tools: Good thing I already had a basic watch repair kit. I made sure I had a case back opener, some soft cloths, and a steady hand.
- Opening the Original Case Back: This was the scariest part. I carefully used the opener tool, making sure not to scratch anything. Took a few tries, but I got it off.
- Installing the Transparent Case Back: Putting the new back on was easier. I lined it up, gently pressed it in place, and used the tool to secure it.
And there you have it! It was nerve-wracking, but seeing that movement ticking away through the new clear back? Totally worth it. It’s like having a little piece of art on my wrist. Plus, it’s a great conversation starter. People always ask about it when they see the gears moving.
I know some folks say these watches hold their value, especially the older or special edition ones. But for me, it’s more about enjoying it and making it my own. And hey, if it becomes a collector’s item someday, that’s just a bonus.
