So, I got this wild idea to try and make a high imitation Rolex GMT-Master II, the one with the “Root Beer” bezel. Sounds crazy, right? But I was like, why not give it a shot? I’m no watchmaker, just a guy who likes to tinker and see what he can do.
First things first, I needed to find some parts. I scoured the internet, looking for anything that could pass for Rolex parts. I found some pretty convincing stuff, gotta say. There are these online stores, and they’re selling all kinds of watch parts. It’s a bit of a gamble, you never know what you’re gonna get, but I found some that looked pretty good.
Then came the tricky part – putting it all together. I watched a bunch of videos online, trying to figure out how these things are assembled. It’s a lot more complicated than you’d think! There are so many tiny little pieces, and you gotta be super careful not to mess anything up. My hands were shaking the whole time, I swear. I used some tools I had lying around, but I also had to order some special ones, like a tiny screwdriver and tweezers. You can get them on some online marketplace, but it’s a bit of a hassle.

The Result
After all that work, I finally had something that looked like a Rolex GMT-Master II. I compared it to pictures of the real deal, and it was pretty close! Of course, it’s not perfect, there are some differences if you look closely. But for a homemade watch, I was pretty darn proud of myself. It actually kept time too, which was a bonus! I even got some compliments from friends who saw it. They couldn’t believe I made it myself.
